Help

Common Questions Answered

Support
Q1 Why does 50% plus 50% not equal 100% in VA math?
VA calculations evaluate remaining healthy body efficiency. A 50% disability leaves 50% healthy. A second 50% rating takes 50% of the remaining healthy capacity (25%), leading to a combined rating of 75% (rounded to 80%).
Q2 How does the final rounding work for VA payouts?
The combined rating is rounded to the nearest 10% increment. Ratings ending in 5% or higher round up (e.g., 75% becomes 80%), while 74% rounds down to 70%.
Q3 What is the Bilateral Factor in VA disability claims?
If you have related conditions affecting both sides of your body (e.g., both legs or both shoulders), a 10% bilateral bonus is added to the combined rating before rounding.
Q4 Can a combined VA disability rating exceed 100%?
No. The absolute maximum rating a veteran can receive is 100% of the service-connected disability scale.
Q5 Does this calculator determine monthly financial compensation?
It determines the final rating percentage. Monthly payout depends on your dependents, marriage status, and the current year VA compensation rate tables.
