Color Questions

Quick help
Q1 What is the difference between HEX, RGB, and HSL color models?
HEX is a hexadecimal representation of Red, Green, and Blue channels. RGB specifies these channels using numbers from 0 to 255. HSL defines colors using human-intuitive attributes: Hue (color angle on a 360-degree wheel), Saturation (vibrancy percentage), and Lightness (brightness percentage).
Q2 What are the WCAG accessibility rules for text contrast?
Under Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), standard text requires a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 to pass level AA, and 7:1 to pass level AAA. Large text (18pt or larger, or 14pt bold) requires at least 3:1 for level AA, and 4.5:1 for AAA.
Q3 What is a complementary color harmony?
A complementary color is the hue located exactly opposite (180 degrees) on the standard color wheel. Combining these two elements creates high-contrast, vibrant visual layouts that command attention when used correctly.
Q4 What are tints and shades in design?
A tint is a lighter version of a base color generated by mixing it with white. A shade is a darker variation created by mixing the base color with black. This tool generates scales of tints and shades automatically.
Q5 Are my picked project colors or palette choices sent to the server?
No, never. All color selections, palette generations, code translations, and contrast tests are computed 100% locally on your machine. Your choices remain private inside your browser sandbox with no server uploads.
